My Thoughts:
I love Shiloh's books set on the island of Ọlọrọ Ilé. In this second book which follows In Search of a Prince, we find Iris, a delightful, dedicated lady, setting up a new business to help local artisans. Ekon Diallo's story continues from book one, and now he is making penance for his wrong doing that happens to mean he is working with Iris in her new business. Sparks fly in this story of redemption, forgiveness, and romance. Shiloh has written another lovely story set on an amazing island with interesting characters. If you enjoy romance that is sweet, fun, and a bit fiery you'll love To Win a Prince.

Contemporary Romance Review: In Search of a Prince by Toni Shiloh

Book Description:

Brielle is uncertain if she even wants the throne, and with her world totally shaken, where will she find the courage to take a chance on love and brave the perils a wrong decision may bring?

My Thoughts:
I can't say enough good things about this delightful book, In Search of a Prince. Can you imagine waking up to find out you're a princess and you had no idea? Brielle did exactly that. Her mom reveals a secret she's kept for over twenty years, and that's where the story blossoms. The island Brielle travels to is lush, beautiful, and filled with interesting characters, including the grandfather she's never met. Shiloh's writing is stellar. She takes the reader into life on the island with perfect description, wonderful characters (and some not so wonderful,) a satisfying romance, and the incredible journey of faith Brielle takes as she seeks God's plan for her. If you enjoy excellent writing and a wonderful story, you'll want to read In Search of a Prince.

Fruit, Suit, and a Royal Crown

Ephesians 6:13-17
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

I was honored to be asked to speak at mother/daughter camp at Woodland Lakes Christian Camp. I joined my daughter, Sara, who led the music and granddaughter Ella Cate. With the theme “Daughters of the King,” I wanted to concrete the idea God created us to be part of his kingdom. 

In the evening, we gathered around a campfire in a circle created by porch swings. I loved the cozy family feeling the swings added to the gathering. As I introduced the idea of being a princess in God’s kingdom, I considered the girls impression of a princess. Most, if not all, knew many of the Disney princesses. You know—the ones with the big, bright eyes, gorgeous gowns, and long flowing hair. While those stories are fun, I wanted the girls to understand the verse in 1 Samuel 16:7—"The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

God created “royal fruit” to fill the hearts of his princes and princesses. Galatians 5:22-23—"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” God’s guidance for the heart was only one element of royalty. He also gave us a suit of armor—the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

With the fruit, suit, and a royal crown, I deemed each mom and daughter a warrior princess who stands and fights in honor of her kingdom.

God doesn’t want his princes and princesses to sit on thrones and look handsome and pretty, he wants us to raise our swords and fight the battles against the enemy.

We can be warriors who raise prayers, sing to fight battles, protect the innocent, show love and kindness, encourage the weary, discipline ourselves to be the best we can be for God, and fuel ourselves on God’s word.

Fill your heart with the Spirit’s fruit, cover yourself with God’s armor, and wear the crown of Jesus’ righteousness.

What a Joy to be Daughters of the King

On Saturday morning I attended a Princess tea party with my daughter and granddaughter. When each guest arrived, two princes graciously opened the door and gave a royal bow. 

Inside the hostesses had created a little princess's dream.

Each table, set with crystal tea cups and lovely centerpieces, welcomed visitors. The breakfast table was spread with quiches, donuts, cheese and crackers, sweet treats and more. Attentive young ladies served tea and lemonade.

To top off the morning, Ariel and Cinderella sang songs and told stories to the excited little girls.

I enjoyed seeing delight in the little princesses as they enjoyed games, crafts, and fun.

This lovely event was put on by Empower Youth.

You may believe a princess is only found in fairy tales. That they live in castles and ride in fancy carriages. 

But I want all little girls to know they have a future as a princess.

Each one can become part of a royal family—God's royal family.

Each young lady has the opportunity to be a daughter of the King. The most spectacular of all Kings. As a daughter of the King, each girl, young lady, and woman can honor her 

Father by showing compassion and love to everyone.

You see, the true qualities of a princess are not outward beauty or perfect manners and speech.

The true qualities of a real princess are found in Galatians 5:22— love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

A princess who wears such lovely traits is a princess indeed.
