Easter Books for Children

Easter Egg Day by Tara Knudson, illustrated by Pauline Siewert
It’s time for Easter eggs—yellow, green, blue, and red! In Easter Egg Day, written by Tara Knudson and illustrated by Pauline Siewert, kids will love watching how plain white eggs turn to colorful zig-zags, stripes, and patterns as this board book celebrates the classic Easter family tradition.

'Twas the Morning of Easter by Glenys Nellist, illustrated by Elena Selivanova
A follow-up to the popular 'Twas the Evening of Christmas from beloved author Glenys Nellist. 'Twas the Morning of Easter tells the story of the resurrection of Jesus in a fresh way, with a familiar rhythm and rhyme that children will love, following the pattern of Clement Moore's iconic "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."

The Berenstain Bears and the Easter Story by Mike Berenstain and Jan Berenstain
Young readers will understand the real meaning behind Easter in this addition to the Living Lights™ series of Berenstain Bears books. Children will discover that Easter is more than candy and egg hunts as they read about the Bear cubs at Sunday school learning about Jesus’ resurrection and salvation.

He is Risen: Rocks Tell the Story of Easter by Patti Rokus
This unique and unforgettable picture book uses rock art and simple text to tell children the story of the miracle of Easter—the resurrection of Jesus. Through the arrangement of a few rocks and powerful words directly from Scripture, the entire Easter story is told in He Is Risen: Rocks Tell the Story of Easter.

These are all delightful books that celebrate Easter. I particularly like He is Risen: Rocks Tell the Story of Easter for its simple, yet powerful format. The Berenstain Bears and the Easter Story is a wonderful book to use to teach young children about Jesus, either at home or in Sunday School. The rhyme and rhythm used in Twas the Morning of Easter will entertain and introduce young ones to the morning Mary found Jesus' tomb empty. Easter Egg Day is a sweet book about a family dying eggs and having funI received complimentary copies of these books. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Children's Book Review: The Berenstain Bears Christmas Fun Sticker & Activity Book

Book Description:
The Berenstain Bears come to life this holiday season with puzzles, activity pages, and more than 50 reusable stickers in The Berenstain Bears’ Christmas Fun Sticker and Activity Book.
Featuring Papa, Mama, Brother, Sister, and Honey and the rest of the Bear Country gang, kids are sure to find lots to do helping Honey Bear find the missing piece of the Bear family Nativity scene, doing crosswords and word searches with Brother and Sister, and even helping out at the Christmas Eve service at Chapel in the Woods.

My Review:
The Berenstain Bears Christmas Fun Sticker & Activity Book is a fun way for children to learn about Jesus birth. Jan and Mike Berenstain created activities that will keep children busy while they enjoy the holiday. The book will entertain kids for hours while mom and dad prepare for Christmas or would be a great family time activity to do together. Either way your child will enjoy this colorful book. This would be a great gift before Christmas. I plan to share it with my grandchildren and have some holiday fun. I'm tempted to work a few of the puzzles myself. So get out the crayons and pencils and have fun with your little ones with this fantastic book. I received this book free from Zonderkidz.

Picture Book Review: The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel by Mike Berenstain

Book Description:
In the newest Berenstain Bears Living Lights book, The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel, the cubs discover there’s more to angels than wings and flowing white robes!
It is almost Christmas and there is finally snow in Bear Country. Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear are ready for some winter fun! But when they can’t decide what kind of snowbear to build, Honey Bear’s snow angel gives the older cubs a great idea. Soon the cubs have built a Christmas snow angel. Later, as they warm up with some hot cocoa, Mama and Papa give the cubs a little lesson about some very special angels and the work they do for God.

My Thoughts:
Mike Berenstain has created a great book that helps teach children about angels and their purpose in The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel. Brother and Sister Bear are so excited about the snow that's fallen overnight. They take little sister, Honey, out to build their first snowman of the season. I enjoyed the variety of snow people they thought about making. Honey inspires them on their final. This leads to Mama and Papa telling the bear cubs about the angels in the Christmas story. I like how Mike intertwined a fun story with truth about angels in the Bible. The book also has further references in the back for other angel scriptures. As usual the Berenstain Bears do not disappoint. I received this book for free from Zonderkidz.

Nonfiction Children's Book Review: The Berenstain Bears' Holiday Cookbook: Cub-Friendly Cooking With An Adult by Mike Berenstain

About the Book:
Be part of the fun and join Mama, Papa, Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear as they cook up holiday favorites and some unique eats for friends and family with the all-new The Berenstain Bears Holiday Cookbook. Filled with traditional holiday favorites like Frosted Sugar Cookies, Pumpkin Pie, Hot Apple Cider Punch, Cranberry Stuffing, and some unique and fun recipes like Papa Bear’s Paw-Licking Good Chicken Wings, this kid-friendly cookbook will help Bear Country families, and families and friends everywhere, have the most wonderful year of eating ever!
Young cooks and their adult assistants will find recipes for beverages, meals and sides, and sweets and treats.

My Review:
The Berenstain Bears' Holiday Cookbook is a great tool to use to start teaching children to cook. I like that the cookbook is divided into holiday and seasonal dishes, beginning with Valentine's Day and ending with Christmas. Each section is color-coded and begins with a Bible verse and a fun conversation between the Bears. The food in the pictures look appetizing and will encourage children to try their hand at cooking. Some of the recipes are super simple, while others will challenge a child who wants to learn more about food prep. Reading and following the recipes will help kids learn to follow directions, practice math skills, and gain confidence. This would be a great book to enjoy as a family. I received this book in exchange for a fair review.

Children's Book Review: School Time Blessings by Mike Berenstain

Book Description:
It’s time for the new school year to begin and all three Bear cubs are excited and a little nervous too. When challenges and fears almost get the better of the cubs, Mama and Papa step in and remind Brother, Sister, and Honey that with their support, prayer, and God’s love they will each have a great year!

My Review:
Summer is winding down and school is just around the corner. And the Berenstain Bears are ready to help make the transition a little easier. Mike Berenstain has continued his family legacy with this delightful new book, School Time Blessings. This is a perfect book to read with your children before school starts, especially if they go to a public school or preschool. I like the way he incorporates prayer and scripture for reassurance in the story. Kids will love the latest Berenstain tale and will learn from the family's solution of how to calm the fears of a new school year. I received this book in exchange for a fair review.

Children's Book Review: The Berenstain Bears Mother's Day Blessings by Mike Berenstain

Book Description:
Mama Bear is the best mama in all of Bear Country and Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear know just what to do for her on Mother’s Day. In this newest title in the Berenstain Bears Living Lights, The Berenstain Bears Mother’s DayBlessings, join the Bear family and all of Bear Country as they spend Mother’s Day together remembering just why our mothers are so special to all of us!

My Review:
As always the Berenstain Bears teach the bear cubs about the blessings in life. This particular book focuses on Mother's Day. I like that Mama Bear points out that moms work in all walks of life, from a mama bear who stays home, to a doctor bear and a farmer bear. Each bear is treated with respect and appreciation. I like that the bear cubs want to surprise their mom and grandma for Mother's Day. This is a sweet story, focused on family, as the bears celebrate Mother's Day with a trip to church and a fun surprise. If you are a fan of the Berenstain Bears you'll want to add this new selection to your library. If you are new to their stories, you'll be delighted with this positive, uplifting tale.

Join the Bear cubs as they learn all about Jesus’ holy birth. From the angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary to the visit from the three wise men, join Mama, Papa, Brother, Sister, and Honey as they discover the story of the very first Christmas.

My Review:
A classic retelling of the Christmas story. I am so happy that Mike Berenstain has continued his parents' work and new generations will enjoy the Bear family. The Bear cubs excitement about Jesus' birth will encourage children to embrace the beautiful story. Of course the illustrations are delightful. If you've enjoyed the Berenstain Bears add this sweet book to your library. If you haven't introduced them to your children, this would be an excellent start.

Children's Book Review: The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones

Mike Berenstain has continued his parents, Jan and Stan's legacy, by continuing to create Berenstain Bear books. The Bears have spent years teaching children positive lessons. In this storybook they are sharing stories of the Bible, including Noah's Ark, The Good Samaritan, and the story of Jesus resurrection. This book for little ones is based on The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible and features eight stories from the Old and New testament.

I love the bright, cheerful illustrations used to tell the stories. You can't go wrong with the Berenstain Bears. Mike chose eight stories from the Bible often taught to little ones. He simplifies the stories yet keeps them full of faith and hope. The board book is easy for little hands to hold. This would be a great book to read to a young child snuggled on your lap or sitting on the floor in Sunday School. I recommend this book for children aged eighteen months to five years old.
