Do you Feel a Shift?
Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into
practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The
rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that
house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But
everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is
like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain
came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house,
and it fell with a great crash.” -Jesus

All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
– Edward Mote
We walked along the shore of Lake Erie. With each step, the
sand under my feet shifted as I kept my balance and searched for lake glass and
shells. With the sweep of the end of a stick, the sand pushed aside. The tiny
grains ground by the powerful water shifted with ease.
As a child and with my children, I built sandcastles. With a
little water, the sand mounded into walls and turrets. With a wave of water,
the sandcastle fell to destruction.
I’ve felt a shift in life lately—one that requires me to pray and check my
sources. Yes, fact check, but not on Google. I’m fact checking against the Word
of God. What does He say about the chaos of the world, the struggles, the
shifts?
1 John 4:1-2 “Dear friends, do not believe every
spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because
many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can
recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ
has come in the flesh is from God...”
Like the song I learned at VBS as a child: the wise man
built his house upon the rock.
The sand is in constant motion, pushed by the waves, while the
rock offers a solid foundation to build life on. Move away from the sand and
stand on the solid rock of Jesus. For only He offers comfort, peace, salvation,
and truth.
