Kindness
Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in
Christ God forgave you.
Sprinkle kindness like glitter.
If you’ve ever
created a project or helped a child make an art piece with glitter, you know
the shiny flakes stick everywhere. I’ve found remnants of glitter months after
I finished making a card or picture with my kids. If we could make kindness
stick like glitter, wouldn’t the world be a better place?
I volunteer in
Mrs. Hatch’s (my daughter’s) first grade class. One day, one of the kiddos had
a difficult time and struggled to get through an assignment. My heart melted
when the child across from him reached out and comforted him. He even brought
him a cup of water. That’s pure kindness with no expectation of getting
anything back as he helped his friend. He was attentive and saw that his friend
needed help, and then acted on it.
In Ephesians,
Paul reminds the church to be kind and compassionate to one another. As
believers, let’s share kindness wherever we go. It seems at times we’re taught
to get ahead, push to the front, or climb the ladder to the top. What if instead,
I humbled myself and let someone else in front of me, carried them a drink of water,
gave them my seat on the bus, smiled at the cashier and asked them about their
day, helped someone load their groceries onto the counter, or simply smiled and
wished someone a good day? Or what if I posted positive comments on social
media and shared encouragement?
Jesus calls us
to be kind. Let’s sprinkle kindness like glitter and hope it sticks around.
Galatians 5:
22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness
and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
