Awe and Wonder
Psalm 65:8
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.
You’re never too old to be in a state of wonder.
I tend to use the word awesome a lot. Probably, more than I
should, but when I’m talking about or looking at the incredible earth God created,
I have to say it’s awesome. I’ve not traveled worldwide, or even to all fifty
states, but I’ve witnessed wonder and awe. Tim and I enjoy vacationing on Lake
Erie, a beautiful vast lake. I’ve visited the ocean where sand slipped through
my toes. I love the mountains where water falls flow, and trees reach for the
sky. Discovering sea or lake glass and lovely seashells makes me happy.
A rainbow, the northern lights, the moon and stars all cause
me to watch in wonder.
God created the most amazing planet for us to dwell on. If I’m
ever going to give advice, I’d say—keep
the wonder of childhood in your heart. I’ve done that and taught our children and
other children to keep looking and keep wondering. I appreciate the beauty of
the earth. The beauty outweighs the ugly. Keep the planet clean and respect the
woods and meadows. I probably sound like a tree hugger, and maybe I am, but I’m
also a child of God. He gave us an incredible place to make our homes.
Next time a bird flies by, stop and watch it or listen to
its song. I love to hear birds in the morning. Smell the flowers or simply
admire them. Share a moment with someone else and watch the sunset.
Stop and be in the moment. Plant a flower. Dance in the
rain.
I love it when my kids or grands call or text me and ask if
I’ve seen the rainbow or the sunset, or the pink dogwood trees.
Stay in awe and wonder. Thank God for our natural world.
I like your new format. May we all be “tree huggers!” Harriet
