A Child of God

Romans 8:14-16
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Aren't baby feet the cutest?

I recently received the title of great-great aunt. My great-niece and her husband gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. My heart fell in love with this little sweetheart as soon as I glimpsed her photo. She’s precious with perfect fingers and toes and has already smiled. Her mere presence brings great joy to our family.

Another couple I know recently adopted a sweet baby. They’d longed for a little one in their family and eventually got the call. I’m so happy for them.

Both babies are loved and cared for by their adoring parents.

I’m so thankful God adopted me into His family. As a believer in the Creator and Jesus, I chose to accept Jesus as my Savior many years ago, at fourteen years old. Throughout the years, I’ve cried to Abba for forgiveness, help, courage, and much more. When I chose to follow Jesus, I received the Holy Spirit who whispers guidance into my heart every day.

I love what the writer of Romans says: “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.”

Do you see the words in that scripture that give peace? I don’t have to live in fear, and I’m not a slave to sin or to this world. Instead, He gifted me with the Holy Spirit who leads my steps, paves my way, and offers peace and hope.

Living in this world is scary sometimes, but I can push fear aside and trust the One who created me, the One who died for me, and the One who lives within me.

God has me in His hands. There’s no fear in His presence. Trust the One who loves you more than you understand.
