Consistent Change
James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the
heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Aww...September
My favorite months follow summer. Although, I enjoyed
splashing in the pool with my grands, watching baseball with Tim, and spending
time digging in the dirt in my flower garden I’m ready for a change.
September brings cooler temperatures, colorful trees as the
leaves change to scarlet, gold, and orange. School is back in session, and soon
I’ll turn the air conditioning off and let the cool air in through the windows.
The “ber” months offer change, a transformation of weather, activities, and
attitude.
I believe change is the most consistent element of life on
earth. When I worked in the library we eliminated old fashioned card check-out
to fancy new software. The software was updated (changed) every couple of
years. The buildings I worked in changed. It never ended.
I don’t know about you, but when life brings too much change,
I get a bit uncomfortable. Sure, I enjoy the seasonal changes, but when my
phone updates and I can’t find my contacts, I get anxious. When someone in our
family faces a crisis, or it feels like the world is falling apart, my stomach
churns even as I hit my knees in prayer.
Change may swirl about me with consistency, but there is one
who never changes.
I love how James writes how God does not change like
shifting shadows. God is good and perfect and remains the same no matter what.
I trust God to always be who he says he is, a loving Father who expects me to
listen and obey but gives the best hugs and hope beyond this world.
Trust God to never change.
