My Lighthouse

Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

How can I have hope and peace in times of trouble?

Lighthouses dot Lake Erie’s shore. They not only shine light to keep boats safe—those same lights draw people to them.

Tim, Rosie May, and I drove north for a few days' vacation. Our destination was Marblehead, where our favorite lighthouse resides. The tall white structure with red trim reached into the sky and guarded the rocky shore. At night, the green glow of the light warned boaters of the hazards along the lake.

Marblehead Lighthouse drew us to sit on the rocks and listen to the water ebb and flow. When the waves crashed, I found calm in the light’s shadow. I could sit there all day and enjoy the priceless peace that surrounded me.

In the time Jesus spent on earth, he drew people to him. The apostles, the crowds who listened to him preach, even the Pharisees and others who disapproved of him came to him. He warned his followers, as a lighthouse warns a ship, that there would be trouble. His light offered a path to God and still offers salvation and the promise of heaven.

I see Jesus as my lighthouse as I navigate this world. When I’m plunged into darkness and experience fear, loss, tragedy, or simple everyday struggles, I’m pulled toward Jesus’ light—and his hope and peace that surpass all logic in times of trouble.

As believers, we need to shine Jesus’ light into the world.

Share hope, peace, joy, and all the beautiful things Jesus offers.
