Do Not Worry

Matthew 6:33-34
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Tornado sirens blared, and the wind tore through.

We huddled in the hallway and waited for the tornado warning to end. Rosie May found a safe place in the bathroom and snuggled on the rug. Thankfully, a tornado didn’t land in our area, but the mighty wind ripped out several beautiful trees, blocked the roads, and downed the power lines. Our lights flashed off, and we had no power for fifty-plus hours. Plus, our phones lost signal when Spectrum stopped working.

I’m not saying any of this for sympathy or in a complaining way; some folks still may not have electricity. I’m grateful that we only lost some food.

I’m saying this because I never know what each day will hold and I want to remember who is watching out for me. It’s easy to fall into a state of worry. I should know—I’ve experienced the nagging voice in my head fueling my anxiety many times, but as I get older, I realize there’s not much that worry solves.

Jesus said it well in Matthew 6, “...tomorrow will worry about itself.” So why help the worry along. Instead, I try to remember to pray and to trust. God has got this and whatever the outcome is, He’s always there for me and I find comfort in knowing God never changes.

My worries are small compared to my God who is everything.

Pray and trust.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
