Whiter Than Snow

Ephesians 1:7-8a
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.

“Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.” - James Nicholson (1872).

I stood in the front of the wooden pew with my friends from youth group and sang the old hymn Whiter Than Snow. This memory popped in my head the other day as we drove past fields covered in fresh snow. The sun glistened on the field and the snow diamonds sparkled pure and white.

This reminded me of the day I was baptized. I repented of my sins and accepted Jesus as my Savior, then the minister dunked me under the water, and I received the gift of the Holy Spirit. That is a decision I will never regret. On that day, just before I turned fourteen, I chose to live a life dedicated to God.

Have I messed up since then? Yes. Have I sinned? Yep. But I have the precious grace of Jesus in my life. His grace covers my sins. Yes, I continue to seek forgiveness for my mistakes, I don’t take for granted that I’m a child of God. I do my best to walk on the path God has for me, but yes, I wander off. Yet Jesus continues to love me and guide me and give me grace.

As a child of God, He has lavished His love on me. Do I deserve it? Not really. Yet here I am sitting in God’s love as His child.

Yes, that beautiful snow laden field reminded me of how God pours His grace over my sins and how Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross reconciled me to my heavenly Father.

God loves every person and wants nothing more than a faithful, grace filled relationship.

Jesus blood washes us whiter than snow.
