Grow to Become
Ephesians 4:14-15
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
1 Peter 2:2-3
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Tim and I walked Rosie in the park on the first day of spring.
As we hiked along the trail, I searched the woods for new growth. The yellow celandine, also called a California buttercup, spread among the trees, along with tiny purple cress blooms. One flower I always look for had just sprouted. The Virginia bluebell buds hung from stems among the dark green leaves. In a few weeks they would blossom into beautiful blue bell-shaped blooms.
When the trees bud and spring flowers pop up out of the ground, I’m reminded of new life and growth.
When I claimed Jesus as my Savior, I was only fourteen years old. Many years have passed, and so much growth has happened inside me. The Holy Spirit has opened my heart and mind to the goodness of God and his glorious grace.
In the verses Paul wrote, he talks about growing as a believer. In Ephesians, he’s addressing the church and reminding them to grow strong together in their faith.
I love the picture Peter paints of a baby growing and craving milk, as a believer grows and craves the goodness of God.
Allow yourself to grow, to listen to the Holy Spirit, and to embrace the wisdom earned from living a life of faith in Jesus.
