Hidden Treasures

 Colossians 2:2-4

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.

For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
-Proverbs 2:6

We stepped into the Thomas Jefferson branch of the Library of Congress, in Washington DC, one of my favorite places to visit in our country. The interior of the building presented itself as a work of art. The mosaics on the ceiling and the paintings on the walls amazed me. I appreciated the many quotes engraved in the stone above the doors.

The building housed the library of Thomas Jefferson, as well as a room for research and reading. As tourists, we wandered through the building and admired the handiwork of the artists. Then, I spied the one item I wanted to see: the Gutenberg Bible, a Latin version and the first book printed using movable metal type in Europe. The printing of the Bible made it easier for knowledge and wisdom to be shared.

The printer chose the perfect text to revolutionize printing. Before movable type made printing easier, people shared the scripture by writing it by hand. Today, we can open a Bible app and search for any verse we want and have it in front of us in seconds.

I long to better understand the knowledge and wisdom of Jesus and to not be deceived. That’s why I continue to read the Bible and pray for God’s guidance and seek the hidden treasures of scripture.

Through the words of scripture, I gain understanding, knowledge, and wisdom. God values all three and offers all three to me when I ask and listen.

Seek and listen.
