Pour Out Your Heart

 Psalm 62:5-8

Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
    my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
    he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
    he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people;
    pour out your hearts to him,
    for God is our refuge.

As I scroll through Facebook, I see hearts that are heavy and hurting. Many of my friends are posting about events going on in our country. Events that are tearing people apart.

In my sixty-eight years, I’ve witnessed a lot of devastation in our country. I believe I was in first grade when JFK was assassinated. I remember when his brother Bobby and MLK were killed. My brothers were in National Guards and had to go into difficult situations. So many feelings and so much sorrow filled our home.

Our news is heartbreaking to hear and difficult to digest, but one thing keeps coming to me. PRAY!

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1 Timothy 2:1-2

It sounds simple and maybe too simplistic, but as believers in the God who created the universe and gave us the Bible, God calls on us to pray for all people, including those in authority. He asks us to trust Him in times of trouble. God wants us to speak directly to Him with our worries, doubts, anger, frustration, and everything else we experience.

He is our rock and refuge. Pour out your heart to Him.

In Psalm 62, David was in a difficult place in his life, but he knew turning to God was the only way to find hope and rest.

Pray with me for our country, for our leaders. Pray for the families who have lost loved ones and the children who are frightened. Have compassion for people who are hurting. Do what you can and pray.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7
